Who Makes Jeep?

While Jeep falls under the full Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) umbrella, it’s a separate brand from Chrysler, Dodge, and RAM. Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, and RAM are all owned by FCA, but the Chrysler model lineup focuses on family-style vehicles, like the Pacifica, while Dodge offers SUV-style vehicles and performance-based cars. Jeep, on the other hand, is made for adventure: off-road excursions, bumpy roads, and active lifestyles all fit right in its wheelhouse. Is Jeep American-Made?

Jeep has deep roots in American history. Before entering World War II, the U.S. Army solicited bids from several domestic automakers for a “light reconnaissance vehicle” that could tackle tough terrain. The winning prototype, known as the “Quad” for its 4×4 drivetrain system, was created by the Willy-Overland group. This group eventually became Jeep and dedicated itself to building vehicles for both the Anoka streets and off-road travel.

Throughout its history, Jeep has been owned by several automotive companies, most of which were headquartered in the United States. However, in 2021, Jeep was acquired by the Stellantis Group, a multinational automotive company that encompasses several popular brands, including Chrysler, Dodge, and RAM. While many popular Jeep models are still built in the United States, the headquarters for Stellantis is currently located in the Netherlands.
